“The Dhamma will spread
all around the world from here”
Venerable Ajarn Tong Sirimangalo
The International Insight Meditation Center at Wat Chom Tong welcomes visitors worldwide to discover Vipassana Meditation based on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness as taught by the late Venerable Ajarn Tong Sirimangalo. Meditators will learn how to apply mindfulness to the Body, Feelings, Mind, and Mind Objects using simple and structured exercises of mindful prostration, walking, and sitting meditation.
The Vipassana Meditation Center at Wat Chom Tong was founded in 1993 by the late Venerable Phra Ajarn Tong Siramangalo. In the year 2000, the International Department of Wat Chom Tong for foreign students was officially opened and titled the Northern Vipassana International Meditation Center.

The Temple is situated on a Holy Buddhist Site with a history dating back over 2,500 years to the time of the Buddha. Enshrined inside the Temple, is a highly revered relic of the Buddha.

Who can practice Vipassana Meditation?
Everyone interested is most welcome. The development of Mindfulness and attainment of insight through one’s own experience and practice are independent of one’s age, origin, gender, beliefs, or financial capabilities.
Participation in a course is always one’s own choice and responsibility. The Vipassana meditation courses available are not therapeutic and therefore not a replacement for professional treatment of those with mental or physical disorders.
The Northern Vipassana Meditation Center operates on voluntary donations only. This is in accordance with the Buddhist tradition of Dana (generosity). You will have the opportunity to give Dana at the end of your stay.
Why do we practice Vipassana Meditation?
The Buddha pointed out these five aims of the practice of meditation:
- To purify the hearts and minds of beings.
- To overcome sorrow and sadness.
- To free oneself from pain and suffering.
- To discover the true path in life.
- To realize the end of suffering (Nirvana).
